An Update
It’s funny how technology is defining my life right now. I’m not proud of it, but I’m certainly not surprised by it. There are many excuses why blogging has come to a complete standstill and without whining about the busyness of life, (really, how many of us sit around with nothing to do all day?) I will put the majority of the blame of the lack of updates on Facebook.
Right before Caleb was born, I had bought my iPhone and one of the major attractions of the device was the ability to update and share photos from the hospital. The iPhone has an awesome Facebook app (bear with me, I’m already boring myself here) and that allowed us to upload photos for friends and family and kicked off my addiction to this new form of social media. The quick sentence update and new way to share photos were born and quickly replaced this blog which I took care of for so long during Kennedy’s first couple years of life.
And now we’ve come full circle, with technology bringing me back to the blog as I type this out on my new iPad while the kids burn off sone energy at a local indoor play center. This device is pretty cool and may allow me to quickly bang out an update without being tethered to a bulky laptop (how absurd is that statement?) or pushed to a smaller screen better suited for a quick thought.
The other reality that has pushed me away from blogging is my work. NewReleaseTuesday.com continues to expand and KMWeb Designs is refusing to slow down. In essence, I’m running two full time businesses and it’s leaving little time for reflection. Again, a fact I’m not proud of, especially as Caleb hits the year and a half mark and I’ve done little to document his growth.
So here’s a quick update on Caleb. Either it’s his personality or we are a little numb to the every day achievements, a snobby case of “been there, seen that” syndrome, but it definitely seems that Caleb’s development has been more slow and steady than Kennedy’s quick leaps and bounds. He has certainly hit the stage of knowing what he wants without being able to communicate and that has produced quite a lot of frustration as of late. His vocabulary is expanding to a handful of helpful words but it’s still grunts and screams throughout the day.
His attitude came alive a few months ago and that’s been challenging. Just the word “no” or “not now” or really, any form of negative direction, will set him off running to the nearest corner, arms folded and feet stomping. Apparently, Kennedy will be competing for “Best Dramatic Performance In A Leading Role” instead of it being handed to her on an annual basis.
Unlike his sister, Caleb is an eater. There isn’t much that he won’t shove in his mouth which is really nice. And just recently, he’s developed a taste for Chinese food, which i fully endorse.
We’re thankful for the sunshine and we’re getting the the point where we can open the door and just let the kids play and roam in the backyard. It’s nice that they can play okay together and have fun doing so.
That’s all I got for now. I’m hoping technology brings me back to doing this as much as it pulled me away. As the kids grow, the time goes faster and faster, and as great as Facebook is (I might be using that more to post photos), it’s not going to give back as much as this blog does at freezing these moments in time.
